REI Is Selling Duer's $169 Denim Jacket for Just $83 Right Now, and Shoppers Say It's 'Awesome' for Cool Weather

The knock against denim jackets has always been that they’re not warm enough. Wear one in a place with even halfway chilly weather and you’re almost guaranteed an uncomfortable walk, hands stuffed in pockets, huddling for warmth Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan-style. The denim innovators at Duer, however, have solved this problem with this jacket that features an innovative fabric, and it's currently half off at REI.

The Duer Tech Fleece Denim Jacket is on sale for $84 instead of its normal $169 at REI. That means you could get both colorways—classic indigo and black—for the price of one, but even if you only opt for one you’ll be getting a game changing jacket. It's still available in sizes small to XL, but with this monumental markdown, we're guessing they'll start to disappear pretty quickly.

The secret to this jacket’s success is the interwoven fleece denim, a clever combination of the fabric you want to look like you’re wearing and the fabric you want to feel like you’re wearing. This is different from traditional lined denim jackets, which often use shearling and/or insulation because it doesn’t add any bulk. It looks like a jacket you’d wear in summer but it can protect you from the unpredictable weather between winter and spring. The fabric also features a good amount of stretch and a durable water-repellant treatment, all in a classic silhouette with hand pockets, buttoned closure and cuffs, and a standard, simple collar.

REI shoppers haven't yet left any feedback, but a simple glance at the Duer site will uncover rave reviews. One particularly enthusiastic reviewer wrote that this was “the best denim jacket I’ve ever worn!” and that it “meets every standard and goes beyond them too.” More specifically, the collar is “firm and sturdy and can stay up” to protect you from the elements, the winter-ready fabric, non-stiff fabric, and flattering cut.

In search of more feedback, we learned that one of the editors here at Men's Journal has actually been wearing the indigo version of this jacket through the winter. What he said stood out the most at first was how soft it felt. He said, "It's undeniably the softest and most flexible denim jacket I've ever worn—more so than anything I have from Levi's, Lee, Madewell, J.Crew, etc." He also commended the design: "I'm really into the drop-in chest pocket, I thought that was a nice touch."
