Tennis Champ Casper Ruud Posted Message to Rory McIlroy During Barcelona Open
Casper Ruud is playing in the Barcelona Open, hoping to repeat his 2024 performance. The tournament kicked off on April 12, the same weekend that the Masters Championship took place in Augusta, GA.
On April 13, Ruud took to Instagram to share a couple of photos of himself with Masters champion, Rory McIlroy.
"Champ!! Congrats @rorymcilroy," he captioned the post.
Dozens of fans reacted to the photos, many suggesting that McIlroy's Grand Slam win could be motivation for Rudd — who has yet to win a grand slam in tennis.
"Let this motivate you Casper! It took awhile but he completed the grand slam! You are still able to win that masters title or even slam but you gotta want it bad! Put down the golf and work on that forehand and serve up the T," one person wrote.
"Game recognizes game," someone else said.
"Nice to see you played such a key role in Rory’s Masters victory, @casperruud," a third comment read.
"Unbelievable," a fourth Instagram user added.
Sports fans can easily draw comparisons between Ruud and McIlroy, despite the athletes playing in different sports. McIlroy had waited more than a decade to get his Masters win, officially completing the grand slam and joining an elite group of golfers to ever do it.
As for Ruud, he's won 12 ATP Tour singles titles, but despite his impressive career stats, he hasn't been able to close the deal on the grand slam. He's been a finalist at three Grand Slams (the 2022 French Open, the 2022 US Open, and the 2023 French Open), but he's yet to seal the deal.
