Beanie Babies Billionaire's Mansion Site of Horrific Attack

A woman was brutally attacked inside the California mansion of Beanie Babies billionaire Ty Warner during a violent break-in, and authorities say Warner was home at the time of the alleged attack.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, 43-year-old Russell Maxwell Phay from Nevada somehow broke into the Montecito, CA., home on May 21. Once inside the home, it's alleged Phay attacked a woman before barricading himself from deputies responding to a call about a possible vehicle theft or home invasion robbery in progress.

Authorities say Phay barricaded himself in an upstairs restroom. He tried to escape by climbing out of the bathroom window and and jumping to the ground, where he was apprehended by deputies and a Sheriff's K9. Phay was booked for obstruction and felonies, including burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, battery with serious bodily injury, and kidnapping. He has since also been charged with first-degree attempted murder.

According to multiple reports, the woman who was attacked was a 60-year-old financial services expert. It's being reported that the woman once worked for Warner's hotels division. The attack, unfortunately, left her "comatose due to a brain injury." It's unclear how she sustained the traumatic injury.

The billionaire was not hurt.

A criminal complaint obtained by NBC affiliate KSBW identified the victim as "L. Malek-Aslanian." The complain listed a "T. Warner" as the homeowner. A spokesperson with the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office confirmed to NBC News that "T. Warner" is Ty Warner, whose net worth is estimated by Forbes to be $6 billion.

Warner's company, Ty Inc., manufactured and distributed stuffed toys. But it was the Beanie Babies craze in the 1990s that brought him a fortune. He also owns the Four Seasons Hotel in New York and owns a number of high-profile properties in California.
