Barack Obama Makes Head-Turning Comment About Marriage to Michelle

Barack Obama has admitted to being in "a hole" in his marriage after eight years in office as President of the United States.

During an appearance at the O2 Arena in London Wednesday, Obama at one point discussed his marriage to Michelle with historian David Olusoga and the assembled crowd.

In his comments, he shared that his consecutive terms as president left him with ground to make up.

"I was digging myself out of the hole I found myself with Michelle," Obama said, via the Daily Mail. "Now I'm at about level ground."

This is not the first time Barack has made comments like this recently.

'A deep deficit'

Back in early April, during a conversation with Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, Barack made a similar admission about the toll being Commander-in-Chief took on his marriage.

“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” he told Tepper. "So I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things.”

Barack, 64, and Michelle, 61, have been married since 1992 and have two children, daughters Malia, 27, and Sasha, 24.

The Obamas faced divorce rumors this year

Michelle Obama skipped two high-profile events, the inauguration of President Donald Trump and funeral of former president Jimmy Carter in January, both of which her husband attended solo.

Her absences fueled divorce rumors, with some internet speculation insisting Barack was in a relationship with legendary actress Jennifer Aniston.

However, Michelle said on Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast in April that the rumors were unfounded and she had simply been taking time for herself.

“The interesting thing is that, when I say ‘no,’ for the most part people are like, ‘I get it, and I’m OK,’” Michelle said at the time, via TODAY. “That’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with disappointing people. So much so that this year people were — they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
