Police Share Update on Steelers Player Mugging Investigation
Police in Ireland provided an official update on the alleged robbery and assault against Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Skylar Thompson.
Thompson, who is in his first season with the Steelers, was reportedly mugged on Friday night in Dublin, two days before Pittsburgh's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
As of now, Irish police said no official complaint has been filed, and it has not been confirmed if Thompson was robbed.
“No formal complaint has been made by any person at this time,” said An Garda Síochána, the Irish national police, in a statement Monday.
“Following preliminary enquiries, An Garda Síochána has no further information to substantiate, or not, any report this incident involved a robbery."
What allegedly happened?
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero was the first to report that Thompson was the victim of an assault and robbery. According to the Irish Independent newspaper, the confrontation involved "several men near the Temple Bar area, and Thompson’s phone was taken."
It was also reported that Thompson suffered minor injuries in the attack. The Steelers confirmed they were aware of the matter in a statement before their 24-21 win over the Vikings at Croke Park Sunday.
“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” a Steelers spokesman said. “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”
Possible details emerge
While the Irish authorities said no formal complaint has been filed, they did provide some apparent information about the aftermath of the incident.
"Gardaí from Pearse Street on patrol on Dame Street in the early hours of Saturday morning 27th September 2025 encountered a male who required medical assistance," the Garda Síochána statement read.
“The male in his 20s was treated and assessed at the scene by emergency services personnel."
