Authorities Issue Update After Serial Killer Speculation
Police in Texas have issued a startling update about a possible serial killer after the 16th body was pulled from Houston waterways, Fox News reported.
Authorities Pull 16th Body From Bayou
The most recent body was pulled from a Houston bayou shortly after 9 a.m. on Oct. 8, marking the 16th corpse found in the local bayous this year. Though authorities claimed that no obvious signs of foul play were determined, residents have begun to speculate that it may be the work of a serial killer. The body of the man found on Wednesday morning has been handed over to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, who will perform an autopsy. The other victims have been both male and female, and range in age from early 20s to 60s.
Houston's Mayor Issued An Urgent Plea
Speaking to assembled media at a press conference, Houston Mayor John Whitmire admitted that the situation is “alarming,” but tried to quell rumors of a serial killer in the state. “We do not have any evidence that there is a serial killer loose in Houston, Texas,” Whitmire said. “If there was, you would hear it from me first. So, I’m before you today to let you know that enough is enough of wild speculation. It’s very frustrating to me to be at home, watch the news, or social media, and see people spread what I know to be false,” he continued.
Whitmire went on to imply that many of the bodies, five of which were found in a five day period in September, might belong to Houston’s unhoused population, many of whom live near the waterways. Whitmire added that when homeless people die due to illness or other factors, their “friends and associates do not take [them] to a funeral home.” He closed the press conference by stating that there’s currently no evidence “to suggest that any of these incidents are connected."
