Eric Dane's Wife Rebecca Gayheart Shares Heartfelt Message to Fans

Actor Eric Dane's wife Rebecca Gayheart shared a message to fans and supporters Sunday, three days after Dane's death at 53 due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Dane and Gayheart wed in 2004 and were married for over 13 years before she filed for divorce in February 2018. In March 2025, Gayheart filed to dismiss the divorce after seven years of separation due to Dane's ongoing illness.

'There aren't enough words...'

On her Instagram story, Gayheart shared a picture of several framed photos of herself, Dane and their children, along with some words for those who have her family's back right now.

"I am so blown away by the outpouring of love and support," she wrote. "There aren’t words to express our gratitude. You are truly holding us up during this difficult time.”

When Dane passed away Thursday afternoon, he was surrounded by Gayheart, their daughters Billie and Georgia and others friends, according to a statement shared by the family.

"Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight," the message said in part.

"He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

Dane sends final message to daughters

Months before his death, Dane recorded his final words as part of Netflix's Famous Last Words series, with the episode released upon his death.

At the end of the special, Dane shared his last message to his daughters, Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14.

"Billie and Georgia, these words are for you," he began. "I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we?

"I see you now playing in the ocean for hours, my water babies. Those days, pun intended, were heaven. I want to tell you four things I’ve learned from this disease, and I hope you don’t just listen to me. I hope you’ll hear me."

Dane also urged his children to "cherish every moment," find love in their lives and "find your people and allow them to find you."
