BREAKING: Gunman Kills Eight Children, Including a Baby, in Louisiana. Several Were His 'Descendants'
Eight children are dead after a gunman opened fire across three homes in Shreveport, Louisiana on Sunday morning in what the city's mayor called "maybe the worst tragic situation we've ever had in Shreveport."
The shooting began at approximately 6 a.m. local time and spanned two homes on the same street and a third on a nearby street in the northwest Louisiana city, roughly 200 miles east of Dallas. Ten people in total were shot. Eight of the victims — ranging in age from one to 14 years old — were killed. Two adult women survived, both having been shot in the head. One of the women was in a relationship with the suspect, according to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith. One of the surviving women was also described as suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The detail that has shocked investigators and the community alike: several of the children killed were the gunman's own descendants.
"We do know that some of the children inside were his descendants," Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Christopher Bordelon said at a news briefing. The suspect's name has not been released by authorities.
