Chipotle’s Summer Challenge Is Back (With an Extra Competitive Twist)

If your summer routine already includes a steady rotation of burrito bowls, Chipotle is giving you a reason to lean all the way in.

The fast-casual chain’s “Summer of Extras” campaign is officially back for 2026—and this time, it’s turning your usual lunch run into something closer to a competition.

Here’s what the campaign actually means, how it works, and how you can score free food.

What the Chipotle ‘Summer of Extras’ Challenge Is

Running from June 1 through to August 31, 2026, Chipotle’s “Summer of Extras” is a loyalty-based promotion for Rewards members that turns repeat visits into points, perks, and free meals.

At its core, it’s simple: The more you show up, the more you earn.

But unlike traditional rewards programs, this one’s a little more gameified.

How It Works (And How You Win)

The main event is a monthly “streak” challenge:

  • Every time you buy an entrée, it counts toward your streak
  • Hit seven visits in a single month, and you unlock a reward
  • That reward is either a free entrée or 1,625 points (enough for a full meal in the rewards system)

In other words, if you’re eating Chipotle a couple of times a week, you could realistically earn multiple free meals over the summer without changing your habits much.

Along the way, you’ll also rack up:

  • Bonus points as your streak builds
  • Digital badges to help track your progress
  • Access to limited-time offers and extra perks

What’s New This Year: A Competitive Edge

The biggest twist in 2026 is that Chipotle is turning loyalty into a sport.

For the first time, you’ll be able to see how your burrito habit stacks up against others through local, state, and national leaderboards.

That means:

  • You can see how you rank against other customers at your go-to Chipotle
  • Track where you stand in terms of visits, statewide
  • Or even see how you compare nationally

As Curt Garner, President, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer at Chipotle, said, “This summer, we're turning that loyalty into something more rewarding, giving members more ways to earn free food, track their progress, and see how they stack up against other fans in their area."

How to Join (and Get a Freebie Right Away)

If you’re not already signed up, you’ll need to join Chipotle Rewards—it’s free and done through the app or website.

Once you opt into Summer of Extras, you’re in. New members can also get a limited-time free chips-and-guac offer, just for signing up.

After that, it’s just about ordering like you normally would—only now, it’ll actually pay off.

What’s The Catch?

This isn’t just another promo—it’s a push to turn casual diners into regulars by rewarding consistency. And it works. According to Chipotle, last year’s version drove millions of participants and over $12 million in incremental sales, showing just how effective the formula is.

For you, though, the deal is straightforward:

  • If you already eat at Chipotle regularly, you’ll likely get free food out of it
  • If you like a little competition, the leaderboards add a fun edge
  • And if you’re on a budget, it’s an easy way to stretch your meals further

Where is the catch?
