First Look at Amazon's New 'Carrie' Series Adaptation by Mike Flanagan
For over 50 years, Stephen King has been among America's great horror and suspense writers. Several of his novels have become best-sellers, with millions of fans eager to see the shocking twist on the next page.
Many of his stories have been adapted into films, with some (The Shining, The Green Mile, It to name a few) becoming even more iconic than the books they were based on.
The latter holds true for one of King's earliest works, and a new generation of fans will be able to experience the story for the first time in an upcoming television series.
On Monday, Amazon Prime Video shared the first images from the new "Carrie" series, based on King's 1974 book and inspired by the 1976 film of the same name that starred Sissy Spacek as the titular character.

Horror Heavyweights Work on New Series
The new adaptation features Summer Howell as Carrie White, with Samantha Sloyan in the role of her overprotective mother Margaret.
Other notable cast members include Amber Midthunder (Prey, Legion, Reservation Dogs) as Miss Desjardin and Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo, Five Nights at Freddy's) as Principal Grayle.
"After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence," says the show's description.
The new Carrie series is being written, produced and run by TV horror veteran Mike Flanagan. Flanagan has received critical praise and adoration from fans for shows like The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher, and he's also worked on several notable horror films.
Flanagan and King are working together again after Flanagan directed Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep, adaptations of two King novels.
The Newest Adaptation of a Timeless Story
Carrie has been adapted multiple times since King wrote the novel as his debut in the mid-70s, both for television and for the silver screen. A direct sequel, The Rage: Carrie 2 was released in 1999, followed by a TV film for NBC in 2002.
Chloe Grace-Moretz starred in the 2013 remake of the 1976 film, and this most recent adaptation grossed $84 million at the worldwide box office on a $30 million budget.
During an appearance at a fan convention earlier this year, actress Katee Sackhoff revealed that the new Carrie series is set to debut around October of 2026 - timed perfectly for the Halloween season.
Flanagan and many of the main cast will be on stage at San Diego Comic-Con later this month to officially unveil the new show.
