Jets' Cornerback Leaves Practice in Ambulance

New York Jets’ cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers left joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an ambulance. Stiggers had to be carried off the field on a stretcher and have an IV administered, according to people in attendance. 

After practice, head coach Aaron Glenn, who is entering his second season as the team’s head man, provided an update. 

“From what I know, he came to the sideline after a play and he actually fell out. The good thing is he was conscious. Our guys did a hell of a job, like most guys, most medical staff around this league do in situations like that. They took the necessary steps to make sure that we do everything we can to be on board when it comes to those situations. He was able to talk. I want to make sure I go and see him after this to make sure I’m good with everything, but for the most part, he was good.” 

A very scary situation, to say the least, and not one you expect to see during practice. Stiggers is entering his third season with the Jets, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft.

He has had a rather unique path to the NFL compared to many players. He did not play college football; instead, he tried out for the now-defunct Fan Controlled Football league in 2022 and made the FCF Bored Ape Football Club. From there, he tried out for the Canadian Football League and played one season with the Toronto Argonauts. 

He became the first player drafted to the NFL from the CFL since 1999. He has played in 29 games during his first two NFL seasons, and started five of those. He has 27 career tackles and two fumble recoveries.
