Netflix Gets Extended GTA VI Preview

I don’t think there has ever been a video game as anticipated as Grand Theft Auto VI. We are three months away from the November 19th, 2026, release date, provided there are no further delays. Last month, Rockstar Games released a 30-second Cover Art Reveal, and that garnered over 14 million views. The hype is very real.

Today, they announced an Extended Look at the game was coming August 27th, and in less than five hours, that 26-second clip hit over 1 million views. What was more surprising than the rate at which the announcement garnered views was where the extended look was announced to be taking place.

Netflix, the streaming giant best known for its originals like Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy, has landed the rights to stream the preview. The preview will go live on Netflix at 3 PM ET on the 27th, then be uploaded to YouTube later that night at 9 PM ET.

Netflix Vice President of Nonfiction Series Brandon Riegg had this to say about landing the preview first.

“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first. It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”

The move comes as the steamer continues to branch out into the gaming world. This summer, the platform released FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, a soccer game that allowed players to use their phones as controllers. I’ve tried the game, and while it doesn’t compete with EA Sports FC, it was a fun enough experience.

They also released an interactive horror game, Unhinged, on June 30th, 2026. It is clear that the steamer has ambitions to dominate your free time, besides just making new content, and the GTA VI Extended look is just a part of it. I do wonder how much Netflix spent to get 6 hours of exclusivity for the program. Regardless, I will be watching as soon as the Extended Look goes live, and I suspect many others will as well.
