PS5 Owners Now Have Access to Over 100 Free Live TV Channels

It’s a good time to be a PlayStation 5 owner. Some of the biggest games of the year – Wolverine, Control: Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall, to name a few – are heading to the platform over the next few weeks.

The incredible “extended look” at Grand Theft Auto VI was captured exclusively on PS5 hardware, showing off what the world has to look forward to when the game finally releases on November 19.

Sony has cemented the PlayStation 5 as the premium gaming console of choice in this generation, and the company is now offering an incredible free perk for anyone who has the console in their living room.

On Monday, Sony announced Live TV on PS5, giving users access to over 100 free ad-supported television channels across various genres. At launch, the service features dozens of 24/7, live channels and a selection of on-demand content.

This content is now offered in addition to the various multimedia apps on PlayStation 5, a device that many use as an all-in-one hub for their living rooms or entertainment centers. Live TV on PS5 will live in the same ecosystem that console owners currently use to access paid subscription content like Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video.

How to Access Live TV on PS5 Today

Users can access Live TV on PS5 by navigating to the Media tab on the PS5 home screen, selecting the Live TV on PS5 icon and logging in with their PlayStation account.

Movie content at launch includes MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits and Cinevault, displaying films across a multitude of genres.

24/7 channels for various popular shows are also offered, including Community, The Shield, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, Deal or No Deal USA and Fear Factor.

The same can be said for several iconic anime, with streaming channels for Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note and more.

Several major sports are represented on Live TV for PS5, including MMA, football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing and soccer. Sports fans can also watch channels from FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports and the UFC.

News and weather coverage includes channels from NBC News, Fox Weather and LiveNOW from FOX.

Sony Planning Live TV on PS5 Expansion

Several content creators have had their videos adapted for television channels on the network, including First We Feast’s Hot Ones, content from Spotify and The Ringer, Futcrunch, Idle Mode and more.

Additional programming on the service includes gaming and esports content, documentaries, podcasts and other specialty shows and channels.

Sony says that Live TV on PS5 will “continue to evolve with regularly refreshed programming, new channels and additional content over time.” The service is currently only available to PlayStation 5 owners in the United States, but there are plans to expand the live TV offering to Canada and other regions around the world.
