12 Years Later, Seth MacFarlane Reunites With Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried for 'Ted' Sequel — With a Twist

The raunchy teddy bear is back. Following two feature films, Ted (2012) and Ted 2 (2015), not to mention the live-action prequel series, Ted (2024), the franchise created by Seth MacFarlane is going back to basics. Kind of. Instead of trying for more stories about Ted in a prequel setting, the Family Guy creator is, instead, going back to the continuity of the movies.

MacFarlane, who is the voice of Ted, has re-teamed with Amanda Seyfried and Mark Wahlberg, who will reprise their roles as John Bennett and Sam Jackson, but this time, in animated form. A new trailer has just been released by Peacock. Here’s what to know.

The new show will be exclusively animated, and in a style that will remind folks of Family Guy, MacFarlane’s enduring and popular animated comedy that began in 1999. But, again, as mentioned, this series won’t reinvent Ted, but rather pick up after the events of the last movie, Ted 2.

Here’s the official synopsis from Peacock:

Picking up twelve years after the conclusion of the last movie, John and his thunder-buddy Ted are neighbors, both with families of their own and dead-end jobs. Follow these two lovable stoners as they enable each other’s bad ideas about marriage, parenting and the challenges of adult life.

Ted: The Animated Series release date and cast

Ted: The Animated Series will hit Peacock on Thursday, December 17, with eight episodes. There are additional episodes planned for release sometime in 2027. Here’s who’s in the cast:

Will this series feel like a Family Guy replacement? Will it be as funny as the original Ted? The talent here is undeniable, so there’s a good chance that in late December, the new animated Ted will feel like a surprising but reliable comfort binge.
