Apple TV+ Quietly Renews One of Its Best Spy Dramas for Season 8

Apple TV has renewed Slow Horses for an eighth season. The news arrived one day before Season 6 begins on the streaming service.

The spy drama follows a group of MI5 agents sent to Slough House after career mistakes. They work under the rude but skilled Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman.

The renewal means the series will continue through at least eight seasons. Apple had already announced a seventh season in July 2025.

Meanwhile, Season 6 starts on September 16, releasing one new episode each Wednesday until the six-episode season ends on October 21.

Season 8 Adapts Clown Town

Season 8 will adapt Clown Town, the ninth book in Mick Herron’s Slough House series. It will have six episodes.

The story will bring Jackson Lamb into conflict with Diana Taverner, the MI5 official played by Kristin Scott Thomas. Apple says the two face their “most explosive confrontation yet.”

A failed effort to blackmail MI5’s leadership starts the conflict. Lamb must uncover one of MI5’s darkest secrets and stop the threat.

The show has moved quickly through Herron’s novels. However, Season 6 adapts both Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh books.

Then, Season 7 will adapt Bad Actors, the eighth book. That leaves Clown Town as the next story in the book order.

Apple TV Praises the Series

The Season 8 renewal came after Slow Horses won an Emmy for directing for its fifth season. The award came just before Season 6 began.

Jay Hunt, Apple TV’s creative director for international programming, said, “Slow Horses continues to charm audiences all around the world, and I’m delighted that Jackson Lamb and his gang of lovable misfits will be back for an eighth season.”

Hunt added, “Their acerbic take on the high-octane world of espionage is completely unique.”

Oldman is expected to return as Lamb for the new season. The official story details also confirm Taverner’s role, pointing to another return for Scott Thomas.

Apple TV has not announced a release date for Season 8. Still, the show’s yearly release pattern suggests it may arrive in 2028.
