Sony Reveals Limited Edition Grand Theft Auto VI-Themed PS5 Controllers

Rockstar Games is preparing for the biggest game launch of the decade – and arguably of all-time – with Grand Theft Auto VI in November.

The highly-anticipated next installment of the groundbreaking and controversial series was shown off with an extended look at gameplay and graphic fidelity last week on Netflix.

Reactions to the game have been overwhelmingly positive, even after unauthorized footage of the game was leaked on the internet. The extended look at gameplay seems to have overshadowed the leaks, however, and the full marketing blitz for GTA VI is fully underway.

The game will launch to the public on November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but players on the Sony platform will have two additional chances at immersion before beginning their journey through the updated Vice City.

Sony Unveils GTA VI Controllers at State of Play

During Thursday’s State of Play presentation, Sony announced two new limited-edition controllers themed around Grand Theft Auto VI.

The two controllers come in either black or white, featuring identical GTA VI-themed graphics. “Both editions feature a shimmering, color-shifting finish that brings together the hues of a Vice City sunset and the glow of neon lights,” Sony said in its official release announcing the controllers.

“They both also feature custom palm tree details molded directly into the controller, adding a unique tactile element alongside official Grand Theft Auto VI branding.”

Sony says that both controllers will be available “in limited quantities exclusively through direct.playstation.com where available” and at select retailers if fans prefer to pick up a controller in person.

Sony also revealed how the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller will use exclusive features to enhance GTA VI’s gameplay – features unavailable to gamers who travel to Vice City on any other platform.

“In Grand Theft Auto VI, the DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers instantly respond to the action and provide dynamic resistance, bringing the sights, sounds and sensations of Jason and Lucia’s story to life in your hands,” the release says.

Rare Physical Collector’s Item in the Digital Era

The decision to release special edition controllers comes after Sony and Rockstar have each come under scrutiny for their plans around physical media.

The physical edition of Grand Theft Auto VI will not include a disc, as Rockstar has instead chosen to give players a download code for the game inside the box.

In July, Sony made the controversial announcement that it would end physical disc production for games released on PlayStation platforms in January of 2028.

The decisions by Sony and Rockstar have caused uproar around the topic of physical media and purchase rights, but it seems that collectors will be able to have a tangible collector’s item for Grand Theft Auto VI.

The limited-edition Grand Theft Auto VI PlayStation 5 DualSense controllers will be available for pre-order on September 10 at 7 AM PT/10 AM ET in the United States on direct.playstation.com, for a cost of $84.99 USD.
