'Widow’s Bay' Season 2 Streaming Window Revealed
Widow’s Bay is one of the hottest new shows looking to win big at Monday’s Primetime Emmys, following an impressive 6 nominations at the upcoming awards show. The Apple TV series already took home a staggering 8 wins at this year’s Creative Arts Emmys, making the show — as well as its future episodes — a major awards season contender for the foreseeable future.
For those unacquainted, “‘Widow’s Bay’ is a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community,” Apple TV’s official synopsis reads. Kate O’Flynn, Betty Gilpin, Stephen Root, Hamish Linklater, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, and Kingston Rumi Southwick also co-star in the acclaimed series.
“There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is,” the synopsis continues. “But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true, start happening again.”
‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 2 Release Window, Explained
In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, Katie O’Flynn revealed that season 2 of Widow’s Bay should commence filming in March next year. Looking back at Season 1, filming primarily took place in Worcester County, Essex County, and Middlesex County, Massachusetts, between May and August 2025 (via The Cinemaholic), which gives us a timeframe to do some calculations within.
Should principal photography take place across roughly four separate months again, a March commencement date for filming should see Widow’s Bay season 2 wrap filming around June 2027. From there, the August 2025-April 2026 gap between wrapping and the Apple TV premiere of Season 1 would suggest a likely 8-month gap, making a Season 2 release window of March 2028 a likely one, which is a seriously long gap for eager fans.
Of course, these are just estimations, based on the production-streaming windows of the first season, which can vary as the show progresses and becomes more popular. On a more optimistic outlook, Apple TV may try to pick up the pace to deliver the highly anticipated second season in time to still ride the show’s recent wave of critical and audience success.
